In 2015, the Carlsberg Group announced a new sustainability program called Together Towards ZERO, which aimed to achieve a number of things. By their 2030 deadline, the program aims to tackle a number of problems that society is facing, from water usage to carbon emissions, responsible drinking and work accidents. Here’s what they managed to achieve by now:
In their ZERO carbon footprint program, the company aims to reduce carbon emissions and cut down value-chain carbon footprint by 30%. Since 2015, they managed to reduce relative carbon emissions by 30%, and absolute carbon emissions by 25%. The company now uses 56% renewable energy and managed to reduce coal usage by 89%.
In terms of water waste, the company aims to cut down water consumption by 50%, and they managed to reach 12% by now. In order to meet its 25% goal by 2022, the company needs to expedite the process.
Another one of their programs, ZERO accident culture, the company managed to reduce lost-time accident rates by 44% since 2015 and increase successfully trained over 95% of their people leaders, which puts them one year ahead of plan.
Cees ’t Hart, the company’s CEO, stated he is very proud of what the Carlsberg Group managed to achieve, stating that sustainability challenges can only be overcome if people work together.
