Glaslyn Court Nursing Home - Cancelled the monthly waste collections

More residents equals increased waste generation

Glaslyn Court is a nursing home located in the rural village of Gilwern, providing residential and nursing care for adults over the age of 50. Originally opened in 1983 as a residential home for a small amount of residents, Glaslyn Court has evolved and expanded over the years.

With this expansion has also come increased waste generation. Especially in the form of cardboard, plastic and general waste.

Due to the increased amounts of waste, the nursing home has also experienced an increase in number of waste collections as well as waste handling costs.

Waste challenges such as safety, space and hygiene

Waste challenges for an institution like a nursing home significantly impact their daily operations. For example:

Limited waste storage:
Nursing homes often have limited space for waste storage. This becomes a significant issue given the daily generation of waste.

Aesthetic and Hygiene Concerns:
Accumulating waste can be unsightly and may pose hygiene risks, especially in an environment where health and cleanliness are paramount.

Safety Issues:
Improperly stored waste can obstruct pathways, creating safety hazards for residents and staff.

Virtual presentation before deciding to invest in a baler

Mil-tek UK offers to organise a virtual meeting and presentation for those who are interested in our machines and solutions but may not have the time or opportunity for a physical meeting. And that’s exactly what we did with Glaslyn Court Nursing Home.

After the meeting, we agreed on installing a Mil-tek 2205 vertical baler. Following, we educated staff in use of the machine.

Over a short period of time, they saw the following benefits:

  • Better control of internal waste handling
  • No more endless waste trips outside
  • No more breaking down boxes for staff
  • Cancelled the monthly waste collections
  • Saving over £2,000 in the first year
  • Minimized risk of vermin
