Large amounts of cardboard and plastic at construction sites

Truelove Properties is a family-owned construction company situated in Lincoln. Their construction sites generate large amounts of cardboard and plastic waste. The scale becomes evident, especially during the finishing stages of construction projects, where the volume of cardboard and plastic used for packaging materials such as plumbing, electrical fixtures, cabinets, appliances, and flooring is substantial.

With regards to waste management and disposal, the primary challenge lies in keeping cardboard and plastic separate and also seperate from other construction debris. This segregation is vital to facilitate proper recycling.

Baler cleared contruction site of cardboard and plastic

Truelove Properties invested in a Mil-tek baler to implement an efficient waste management at one of their construction sites. Mil-tek installed a 306 baler – equivalent to a 406 baler – with a construction cage unit including a built-in compressor. This cleared the site of cardboard and plastic within the first week.

By using a baler, construction sites can easily segregate cardboard and plastic from other debris. Reducing the volume of cardboard and plastic waste make it easier to store and manage. This space efficiency is particularly beneficial in urban construction sites where space constraints are more pronounced.

With the help of the baler, Truelove Properties reduced the number of skips by 75 %.

Recycling and baling area on all construction sites going forward

Paul Truelove, one of the owners, said shortly after acquiring the baler:

The cost and efficiency savings are a game changer for us and we will build a recycling and baling area into every one of our sites going forward.

Additional benefits of having a baler on a construction site that produces dense waste bales is that the company can get free cardboard collection and a discount on collection of the baled plastic.
