Compression of PET bottles
Disposal of PET bottles is generally a big problem, which the food industry in particular faces. As plastic bottles take up a lot of space, they should preferably be compressed both to save space and with a view to further shipping for recycling.
One of the most important challenges to adequately minimize the volume of PET bottles is to remove the air inside the bottles. To do this, it requires high compression force that can puncture the bottles and ensure that they are tightly compressed. A plastic press can handle this. However, it is important that this also has a suitably large filling opening for the sake of work optimization, as you usually fill many bottles at a time.

Thousands of PET bottles compressed into 1 bale
At Mil-tek, we have done a little fun test that shows how much of a difference a baler can make to waste management – in this case if you have a lot of plastic bottles.
In the picture you can see how much the plastic bottles filled as a starting point.
We used a Mil-tek Mill Size H501 baler for the test.
Significantly reduces plastic bottles
The picture shows the result of the compression. It is quite thought-provoking that the many thousands of plastic bottles, which originally filled a lot, can be compressed into one bale – weighing 217 kg. The bale can be on an ordinary euro pallet, and can therefore be easily transported further.
Before the test was performed, all capsules were removed from the bottles and they were emptied of excess contents. This helps to make the end product (the compressed bale) significantly more sought after by local renovators who have to pick it up.
